The latest talk on the bin Laden raid has been a supposedly new stealth helicopter that was use by the Navy Seals during the raid. While it is not all that surprising in many respects that we may have a new stealth helicopter. The surprising thing is that it has been kept a secret until now. Although, it has not really been kept a total secret, but a through misinformation campaigns that would have deflect the fact that development had continued on the stealth helicopter programs after the cancellation of the Comanche program.

I remember the Comanche helicopter was actually used in computer game probably about a decade ago, so the existence of these types of helicopters has not been unknown or secret, per se. We have know about the potential for stealth helicopters for quite a while. Since the first Comanche helicopter was developed in 1995 and I am not sure when exactly the Comanche program became public knowledge, but as far as I know it wasn’t a big secret , but just a somewhat lesser known and talked about program and ultimately lesser valued program, since it was canceled in 2004. Here is a report from the time:

February 23, 2004
Army to End Comanche Helicopter Program
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 12:34 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army has decided to cancel its Comanche helicopter program, a multi-billion project to build a new-generation chopper for armed reconnaissance missions, officials said Monday.

The contractors for Comanche are Boeing Co. and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.

With about $8 billion already invested in the program, and the production line not yet started, the cancellation is one of the largest in the history of the Army. It follows the Pentagon’s decision in 2002 to cancel the Crusader artillery program — against the wishes of Army leaders.

Pentagon officials said a public announcement was planned for Monday afternoon.

Loren Thompson, who follows aviation and other defense issues for the Lexington Institute think tank, said he believes the Army under new chief of staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker favors ending the Comanche program, even though the service had been counting on it to provide a new reconnaissance capability.

“The Bush administration has now killed the two biggest Army weapons programs it inherited from the Clinton administration,” Thompson said, referring to the Crusader and Comanche.

Earlier this year the White House budget office asked the Pentagon to provide independent reviews of the Comanche and another expensive aviation program, the Air Force’s F/A-22 Raptor fighter.

Although killing the Comanche project would save tens of billion in future costs, the cancellation decision is expected to require the Army to pay at least $2 billion in contract termination fees.

The Comanche program was started in 1983 and had survived many reviews. Initial production was scheduled to begin in 2006.

Below are known facts about the Comanche:

Stealth characteristics. The Comanche incorporates more low-observable stealth features than any aircraft in Army history. The Comanche radar cross-section (RCS) is less than that of a Hellfire missile. To reduce radar cross-section, weapons can be carried internally, the gun can be rotated aft and stowed within a fairing behind the turret when not in use, and the landing gear are fully-retractable. The all-composite fuselage sides are flat and canted and rounded surfaces are avoided by use of faceted turret and engine covers. The Comanche’s head-on RCS is 360 times smaller than the AH-64 Apache, 250 times less than the smaller OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, and 32 times smaller than the OH-58D’s mast-mounted sight. This means the Comanche will be able to approach five times closer to an enemy radar than an Apache, or four times closer than an OH-58D, without being detected.

Noise suppression. The Comanche only radiates one-half the rotor noise of current helicopters. Noise is reduced by use of a five-bladed rotor, pioneered by the successful Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) MD-500 Defender series of light utility helicopters. The fantail eliminates interaction between main rotor and tail rotor wakes. The advanced rotor design permits operation at low speed, allowing the Comanche to sneak 40% closer to a target than an Apache, without being detected by an acoustical system.

Infrared (IR) suppression. The Comanche only radiates 25% of the engine heat of current helicopters, a critical survivability design concern in a low-flying tactical scout helicopter. The Comanche is the first helicopter in which the infrared (IR) suppression system is integrated into the airframe. This innovative Sikorsky design feature provides IR suppressors that are built into the tail-boom, providing ample length for complete and efficient mixing of engine exhaust and cooling air flowing through inlets above the tail. The mixed exhaust is discharged through slots built into an inverted shelf on the sides of the tail-boom. The gases are cooled so thoroughly that a heat-seeking missile cannot find and lock-on to the Comanche.

These characteristics combined with ground hugging (aka map of earth flying) are all in keeping with the reasons why the helicopter could had gotten in range without being seen on radar or heard by neighbors until it was overhead. So this really boiled down to three possibilities. One maybe they just took in a Comanche or a few Comanches, and found some other way to get the troops in either by conventional helicopter or some other means, two the most plausible possibility is they specific developed a sort of modified Black Hawk Comanche hybrid for this mission, which they had a year to plan, or third there could still be a black program going on which develops Comanche like helicopters on a limited scale for special forces missions.

Of course there are other possibles of similar helicopters currently in development that the Navy Seals could have used modifications of. One such helicopter is the Eurcopter X3 which can fly a plane like speeds and may also explain why they didn’t hear noise until the helicopter was right over top. Sikorsky also has a similar version the called the X2. While the neither of these specifically match the tail blade certain similar technologies could had been employed.

However, considering how bin Laden was such a high priority target it is very quie concivable that they did develop or at least modifiy something for this mission. Since there is not really any other convicable reason why we would have needed a year of planing for this mission, since we didn’t need to engage diplomatic channels with Pakiastan, but simply find ways around them.

However, considering how bin Laden was such a high priority target it is very quite conceivable that they did develop or at least modify something for this mission. Since there is not really any other conceivable reasons why we would have needed a year of planing for this mission, since we didn’t need to engage diplomatic channels with Pakistan, but simply find ways around them. Once we located bin Laden around that area it doesn’t seem feasible that we lost him (in fact the CIA even had a safe house in Abbottabad watching him), rather it seems the most likely scenario is that Pakistan has been shielding him. Thus the planing was needed to evade detection by Pakistan more than anything, and part of that planing was likely use of, not new or secret stealth technologies, but modified stealth technologies that are not widely used due to cost prohibitablity. Furthermore, it is clear the if the helicopter crashed the technologies did not work all that well, and were probably not widely developed under a large scale black program.

Now of course Obama may be trying to detract from this by meeting with “special operators” tomorrow. While it makes movies and such to have bin Laden killed in such a way, the ideal way really would be to of had him killed in the most indiscreet and insignificant way possible, which would had ddiminished his stature, now the fear becomes that it will be remembered that we used are best technology and everything we had to take him out. Nonetheless, the fact still remains we go him, so it will continue to be a rallying event. Now the best thing we can do is to forget him, because the terrorists would want for him to be remember as a martyr or something. Thus the best thing is to say we got him, and that is that.

Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan after the raid

Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan after the raid

So I just received emails from both the Washington Post and ABC News Indicating that President Obama said on 60 Minutes he is not going to release the pictures of Osama bin Laden.

One can’t help but wonder why this is. It must be assumed if he is not intending to release photographs there must be some other method of evidence that can certify that the body is indeed that of Osama bin Laden. Since he has about 600 relatives composed of a “Saudi group”, a “Syrian group”, a “Lebanese group,” and an “Egyptian group it is not inconceivable that they could run some sort of DNA test, but it doesn’t seem likely we could verify his exact DNA since we never had it to begin with.

Nonetheless, a paternity DNA test (which I just found is the type they reportedly ran on bin Laden’s DNA) that determines whether a father and child are related, is fairly accurate, but it would also be nice to verify the Mitochondrial (Maternal) DNA as well. Nonetheless, without the original DNA and considering the large family size that bin Laden came from there may continue to be speculation that we may, on some off chance, have killed the wrong man. People after all wouldn’t accept President Obama’s birth certificate as valid, so it’s not hard to see this conceivable escalating into some a trivial controversy.

Since there will always be that element of doubt, but what can anyone really know for sure anyway. We could take the argument all the way to existentialism (that you can only know what you experience) and beyond if we wanted and dismantlement all concepts of epistemology. Thus, it would be silly to seriously doubt bin Laden’s death unless we had some very compelling reason to believe the Obama administration has very compelling motive to device on this point. Again there is a very small question left, but the doubt right now is probably just the media doing its due diligence in vetting the withholding of these photographs.

In paternity testing, no man will ever be 100% included as the biological father because there is always the slight possibility that the DNA profile of the alleged father matches the DNA profile of the child by mere chance. The likelihood of this happening is usually well below 0.001% (1 in 100,000), but it depends in large part on the ethnic origin of the individuals involved. In addition, it important to note that the certainty usually increases with the number of DNA loci (locations) analyzed.

But the test can’t rule out that the body was bin Laden’s brother, according to Dr. Lawrence Kobilinsky, a forensic scientist and chairman of science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Blacktip Shark

For those of you that might have doubted the virgin birth of Jesus through Mary here is one more small thing showing the possibility of virgin birth. Albeit, it only seems to allow female births, at the moment; so it does not bring the virgin birth of a boy child into the realm of non-miraculous just yet. What it does show is that anything you think you “know” about science can turn out to be wrong at any time turn. This is yet another reason why no one should ever insist that anything is impossible, and should always remain open minded to the possibility of the supernatural.

Apparently, this is not the first incident; there has been one other recorded instance of a virgin shark getting pregnant! The first such recorded instance was of a hammerhead shark at the Omaha, Neb Zoo. This current case involved a blacktip shark that had been living in isolation at a Virgina aquarium which recently died, but was found, upon autopsy, to have been carrying a well developed embryo that was very close to full term. The shark is believed to have produced this embryo asexually, and this was confirmed by genetic tests carried out by Mahmood Shivji of the Guy Harvey Research Institute of Nova Southeastern University in Dania Beach, Florida, and his colleagues. They used DNA fingerprint analysis to test for parental markings, and the embryo showed no evidence of having a father. This study concerning a shark named Tidbit and this phenomenon was published in the Oct. 10 Journal of Fish Biology; if you want to look it up for yourself. I am sure you can find more in other news sources too.

Asexual reproduced is certainly not an unknown phenomenon, however it has previously only been observed in birds and reptiles, and they use a different type of asexual reproduction called parthenogenesis. Also asexual reproduction is quite a common phenomenon among prokaryotic organisms, which has been known much longer than eukaryotic asexual reproduction. Perhaps there is also some truth to Jurassic Park; “life…finds a way”.

We have all heard of the Giant Squid, Architeuthis dux,. A marine creature of near mythical proportions. Now imagine a squid that is on average, at least as large as the largest Giant Squid. That is the Colossal Squid, Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni. Colossal Squid grow to a maximum of 46 feet compared to the 39 feet for the giant squid. They are aggressive predators known to attack Sperm Whales. They have been described as not only larger, but a magnitude meaner than Giant Squid. Colossal Squid have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom. Calamari made from their tentacles would be the size of tractor tires. They weigh half a ton. Their beak and claws rival those of the fiercest land predator.

Recently, New Zealand fisherman led by Jim Anderton fishing off the coast of Antarctica caught an adult male Colossal Squid weighing 990 lbs, and measuring an amazing 39 feet long. The species was discovered in 1925 when two arms were found inside the stomach of a sperm whale. The only other specimen found was a 13 foot long immature female discovered in 1981. The squid was caught while feasting on 8 ft long Chilean Sea Bass.

The Colossal Squid has a gruesome reputation. Giant squid are believed to be the basis of ancient sea myths, such as the Kracken of Norwegian lore. A giant squid attack on a French naval vessel inspired Jules Verne’s novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. A World War II naval vessel has even reported being attacked by a giant squid while sinking, claiming one of their own was eaten in the attack. Colossal Squid also have a mean reputation with marine scientists. Colossal Squid have been known to have been known to attack the massive Sperm Whale. Sperm Whale’s have often been found with huge scars from Colossal Squid hooks and beaks on their backs, as well as Colossal Squid parts in their stomachs. Although this aggression may be nothing compared to what may happen in the future.

Research has shown a recent trend of Squid growing bigger quicker as the water temperature increases. A correlation has shown that for every 1 degree Celsius increase in water temperature, the average juvenile squid doubles in size. This has only been proven in more manageable sizes of normal squid, but the trend may apply to Giant and Colossal Squid. If this is true, the next Colossal Squid found may take a coupe fishermen down with it. This could be the next danger of global warming. Watch out!

Modern technology appears to have no limits. Microsoft comes out with a new version of Windows every year. Monitors are as thick as a piece of paper. Hard drives double their memory every day. However, there are a few drawbacks. Computers take up a noticeable amount of space, and as our bodies expand, we will need that extra space. Although the greatest drawback to modern computers is the fact they are simple pieces of metal; they are not living organisms. After all, we could use the extra food and oxygen living computers would produce. But don’t worry, modern science has found the answers to these all problems, plus our radioactive waste disposal needs.

Researchers headed by Derek Lovley at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have discovered a microorganism that is highly electrically conductive. The organism named Geobacter was discovered on the bottom of the Potomac in 1987 by Lovely. Geobacter has already lived a career as a garbage disposal. Since its discovery Geobacter has been used to eliminate petroleum spills, landfill pollution of groundwater, and uranium waste. However, Geobacter is destined for more roles and greater importance in future technology. Geobacter can grow tails called pili, which can be used as a nanowires 3-5 nanometers in length. The nanowires are essential to creating nanodevices. Furthermore, by altering the genes of the organism many different tails can be created with different qualities and functions. However, the organism itself may be very useful. Geobacter can eat pollutants and convert human and animal waste as well as bio fuel into electricity. This electricity can be manipulated to make the organism itself a switch, creating the basis for a bionanocomputer. With the aid of these nanowires and Geobacter’s electrical capabilities, we may finally be able to create computers smaller than their mice, and cellphones we can lose in our ears. Thank you Mr. Scientist.

Lawrence Dorr from South San Francisco Calif. wrote in a letter this to Time Magazine (and it has been published in the Dec 4th issue along with a series of other letters on both sides of the issue, which were in response to the God vs. Science story in the November 13 issue):

What Intelligent Designer came up with caner and toothaches? Who “designed” your appendix and tonsils, organs that do nothing but get infected and cause you grief? How intelligent is the famously fragile human spine, or the narrow pelvis that makes childbirth harder for humans than for almost any other species? There are evolutionary explanations for all of these, but I hardly think there was much intelligence in designing halitosis, acne and flatulence.

I wish this guy would figure out which side he is arguing, because it seems he is almost arguing more for the Intelligent Design side; especially by bringing up that the human pelvis is so narrow as to make childbirth harder for humans than any other species. Lets see Genesis 3:16

To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.” NASB

that is only the third chapter of the whole Bible. This guy is trying to argue against God without even reading three chapters of God’s book. Is it so much to expect that it you are going to reject the concept of a designer you at least knows a little bit about the history the Designer has reveled? As for his other points isn’t evolution suppose to enable us to adapt, so why hasn’t natural selection done away with the appendix, and tonsils and all these other problems that he mentions. Unless maybe God created us, and now, because of sin we have the 2nd law of thermodynamics:

Physicist Lord Kelvin stated it technically as follows: “There is no natural process the only result of which is to cool a heat reservoir and do external work.” In more understandable terms, this law observes the fact that the useable energy in the universe is becoming less and less. Ultimately there would be no available energy left. Stemming from this fact we find that the most probable state for any natural system is one of disorder. All natural systems degenerate when left to themselves.

Scientist say that corn based fuel products may propell our cars in the future. Well, now Wal-Mart believes corn based eye wear will propell our vision into the future. In an tactic I call, hippie fishing, Wal-Mart has stocked 100% eco-friendly sunglasses. These glasses are hip, stylish, and full of crap, in the recycled variety of course.
But what is the advantage of this flower power? According to the display, all parts of the glasses produced by StyleScience are Earth First.

    corn sunglasses

. . . frames are moade from NatureWorks PLA, a natural plastic made from 100% corn. . . metal frmes are constructed from recycled alloy which helps save precious resorces. . .lenses are made from recycled plastic.

    corn sunglasses

The tagline for this product is “Look good. Naturally.” However, I wonder how helpful it is to nature to mold some cob into a stylish blob. How many resources do we save on lenses? The metal in the frames weighs a couple of ounces. Is it really worth it to use recycled metal? In the long run products such as this may be a solution, however for the immediate problem being adressed by the manufacture of these glasses another solution is needed. The manufacturer of this product is looking to make a little more money for a struggling company on a small time, cheap product. This does no do much for the enviornment. What America needs is large scale recycling. Awareness and active conservation across all private and public organizations is the key to the future. We need to start by recycling old building materials, our trash, and hopefully every single part of our life. This ploy to make a few bucks only hurts the cause towards enviornmantally friendly processes.

What do aliens do when they go to the beach. Well hypothetically, if they were mega giants they would be playing with the newly discovered planet HAT-P-1. This planet is huge and puffy, it would be inhabited by Furbies, if Furbies escaped from Earth in a spaceship. In fact this planet is less dense than water. Theoretically earthlings could use it as a beach ball, or well a race of Paul Bunions multiplied to a power of 10.

    puff

This planet is the largest of the planets astronomers have discovered in other solar systems. In fact this planet has created a whole new classification for planets. Apparently cosmic puffs is more than a cereal.

Scientists have found a fossil of a snake that had legs and a sacrum. The fossil was found in Patagonia which is in southern Argentina on the content of South America. How do you suppose the writers of the Bible could have known that snakes used to walk.
    snake fossil

Genesis 3:14- And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

This obviously implies that the snake did not always slither upon the ground and they knew this a mere 5 thousands years ago or whenever Genesis was written. Interestingly scientists say the snake fossil was 90 million years old. Then I submit this question to them: how can people have known a mere 5 thousand years or so ago, whenever Genesis was written; without having found any fossils themselves or actually having first hand knowledge that there were indeed snakes that did not go upon their bellies. The answer is really quite simple; the fossil is not really 90 million years old. Maybe, they did used radioisotope dating, which uses Uranium-235, since that supposedly has a half life of over 700 million years. However this dating must be called into question since we now know that coal and diamonds which were previously dated to be 300 million years old has been found with Carbon 14 in them, there is obviously a problem with dating methods. See Carbon 14 has a half life of about 5 and a half thousand years, and should not last much longer than 11 thousand years, but yet has been found it these things that are supposed to have formed millions of years ago. How then can we trust the dating of these fossils if the dating of coal and diamonds using the same method has been proven to be off by 299.9 million years; about a 0.3 accuracy percentage?

To add insult to injury the archaeologists named the snake najash, the Hebrew name for the Biblical snake which tempted Adam and Eve. Imagine that they acknowledge the fact that the writer of the Bible at least knew about this type of snake, but they can not come to the logical conclusion that if they knew of it then it must have lived at the same time of humans not 90 millions years ago.
